OBLIQUE TRAINING PART 2

OBLIQUE TRAINING PART 2

Hello this is Gabriel and this is how you can train your obliques with this exercise with the Parabell.

During part I of this series we learned how to do a pendulum motion using the Parabell, and how to amplify this movement using a squat. All of this is essentially done on the sagittal plane. In Part II we will learn how to implement a rotation on the transverse plane using this sequence.

During a normal swing, forehand or backhand, the Parabell has to move on the same plane of motion. Usually that is the frontal plane. During the pendulum motion, it is moving on the sagittal plane. how do we turn a sagittal plane motion into a frontal plane motion? We do this by rotating the ribcage. If my ribcage is rotated, a movement going in this direction is on the frontal plane for my ribcage, even though it is still on the sagittal plane for my legs and pelvis.

Since the purpose of this exercise is to create length potential in our oblique muscles, and then use this length potential, we are going to do the backhand swing and let our ribcage rotate as much as we can before starting any rotation with our pelvis. All of this is happening while we are raising up from our squat position.

Send me your questions on the comments so I can reply with a video.
